Scrabble Word Lists

The lists a word-game player actually goes looking for: what to do with a Q and no U, how to play a rack with no vowels, and the two- and three-letter words that make a blocked board scoreable. 9,664 entries across 10 lists, every one of them valid in ENABLE.

The lists

Why ENABLE and not the full dictionary

This site merges four word lists into 315,007 words, which is the right answer when you are trying to find out whether something is a word. It is the wrong answer when you are deciding what to play: Webster's 1913 contributes tens of thousands of entries that a word game will simply reject.

So these pages use ENABLE alone—172,823 words, public domain, and the list Scrabble and Words With Friends programs validate against. Where the general two-letter list counts 134 words, this section counts 96, and the difference is the 38 that would be challenged off the board.

About the scores

Every word on these pages carries its Scrabble score, with the Words With Friends score on hover. Both are raw tile totals and deliberately exclude double- and triple-letter and word squares, which depend on where you place a word rather than on the word itself. A seven-tile play also earns a fifty-point bonus in Scrabble, which no word list can tell you about in advance.
